The origins of Venetian plaster date back to ancient Roman architecture, where marble dust was mixed with slaked lime to create smooth, durable stone-like surfaces. The technique flourished during the Venetian Renaissance, where local craftsmen refined the formula into the celebrated Stucco Veneziano.

Composition and Distinctive Characteristics:

Traditional Venetian plaster consists of micronized marble flour, aged slaked lime, and natural mineral pigments. Its magical appearance comes from a specialized multi-layered technique:

• Application of 3 to 7 ultra-thin translucent layers using specialized Japanese stainless steel trowels.
• Each layer is manually burnished (polished) to compress the mineral crystals.
• Light penetrates and refracts through the translucent marble layers, producing an authentic optical depth and natural stone glow.
• A final coating of pure beeswax protects against humidity while enhancing color saturation and velvety sheen.

Venetian plaster is completely natural, breathable, hypoallergenic, and naturally resistant to mold, growing increasingly durable with age.
